The Hundred Language of Children |
Reggio Emilia inspired
This web site is meant to inform parents about the Reggio Emilia Approach Philosophy of education. As our program is Reggio Emilia inspired, I believe it is beneficial for the school cummunity to understand what is the purpose of Reggio Emilia educational systems and what are the expectations for preschool children from two to four years old.
I also invite educators regardless of their educational programs to take some ideas that would help them enhance children development, learning and growth.
Reggio Emilia schools were created in Reggio Emilia, a small city in Italy by the pedagogue Loris Malaguzzi after World War II. He wanted to build a different concept of school where children learn about problem solving and critical thinking as essential skills and as a foundation of learning.
The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy in which children are viewed as capable, confident, competent creators of their own learning.
I believe that it is essential for teachers, parents and school community to know that even when our school philosophy is inspired by Reggio Emilia we are not Reggio Emilia. It would be pretentious and also irresponsible to imitiate Reggio Emilia shcool. We represent a different culture with diiffrente values. But, we are inspired by what they have accomplished and are trying an analog approach in our own culture and values. We are working with the ideas and philosophies of Reggio Emilia as a base to rethink our own practices.
