Children with special needs

Picture
In Reggio Emilia Schools, children with special needs are not only included  but they are given priority. They are viewed as children with special rights.  A child with special rights would be placed in a class of same-aged children. Only one special rights child is placed in a class and that class is given an additional teacher. This teacher is there to support all students, not just the child with special rights.

The special rights child’s educational program is developed just like the other children, through observation and documentation. A declaration of intent  includes methods and materials that can be used to help the child. This declaration is not formalized, it is flexible and is constantly being revised as research and observations of the child continues.
